Become Advanced Equipment Specialty Instructor

The functioning of diving equipment is a fascinating subject. This is why it is so surprising that there are hardly any books available that give real insight in the functioning of regulators, valves, BCDs and other equipment items. This course and the related materials do.

Step-by-step complicated technical features are “brought to life” with the help of text, drawings, pictures and video. All common equipment features are covered. Subjects such as regulator freezing, testing the condition of diving equipment in the field and calculations of regulator performance make this course to one that can really be said to provide “in-depth knowledge”.

The course is modular. At the end of each segment you answer questions related to the knowledge you just acquired. Correct answers then give you access to the next course segment. After completion of the last segment, you receive a document that allows you access to the practical part of the course. With this document you can address yourself to one of the Instructor Development Centers that participate in this program to complete the practical part and to become certified as an Advanced Equipment Specialty Instructor.

This specialty addresses itself to divers who “really want to know how equipment works”. The subject can at times be complicated, but a lot of effort has been invested in a course plan that progresses in small steps – this and avoiding complicated terminology have aided in a course program that can help all to get a grip on this fascinating subject.

As part of your training, you get access to the tools needed to teach this course in life presentations. The instructor kit is available on www.scuba-logistics.com. This distinctive specialty goes far beyond the “normal” level of knowledge on diving equipment. It develops a real understanding of subjects such as balanced and non-balanced, the functioning of rebreathers, the difference between various cylinders and so on. The text is supported by pictures, drawings and video.

Divers can also do the theory of this specialty online. They then come to you for the practical part of the course only. In that case, the procedure is the same as the procedure you are following in your Specialty Instructor course. We are happy to include your name on the consumer version of this program – www.specialty-courses.com. The conditions for this option are listed in a document that can be downloaded here.

The course fee for the theory part of this course is 159 euro. The price charged by Instructor Development Centers for the practical part of your training is listed on their respective internet pages. Once you have completed your training, your access code for the course will stay active for as long as this internet course exists. This way you can always go back to prepare yourself for a course, or to find information that may help you to answer student questions.

FAQ

Do you have to be a PADI instructor to take this specialty instructor course?

No, access to education is not restricted. Instructors from other organizations than PADI can take the course. Participants who are not PADI instructors will not be certified upon completion. They will receive a certificate as recognition for their efforts. Completion of this course does not imply the authorization to teach. Such an authorization can only be given by a diver training organization, such as PADI.

Can divers participate in this online Specialty Instructor Course?

No, but divers will find a course on the same subject on www.specialty-courses.com. This diver level course is fully adapted to the needs of recreational divers.

Is it common that Specialty Instructor Courses are done via the internet?

Courses on the internet can only be offered by the person or institution who is owner of the copyright of the course content. The number of these entities offering their programs on the internet is increasing. In most cases there is a practical training requirement that requires you to do part of your training with a Course Director. For full-online courses a long and strict review process has to be completed before such permission is granted.
